Emotional Smriti Irani’s Fiery Speech on Rohit Vemula’s Suicide

BSP members led by their chief Mayawati, created a commotion on the first working day of the Budget session of Rajya Sabha over the suicide of Dalit student Rohith Vemula, a student in University Of Hyderabad belonging to a dalit minority community.Mayawati accused the Modi government of not doing enough to punish those who according to her were responsible for pushing the student to take his life and that Smriti Irani should be sacked for playing a role in Vemula’s death.

Smriti Irani, BJP member of Rajya Sabha furiously reacted on this saying “Who uses child as a political tool” and requested the matter to be discussed immediately in the House to which Mayawati asked if a Dalit member be included in the judicial committee.

A visibily agitated Irani said “Mayawatiji, I request you are a senior member and a woman and you want an answer, I am ready to reply and if you are not satisfied with my answer, I will cut my head off and put it on your feet”.

Smriti Irani said that during last 20 months, she tried her best to do justice to students by addressing to their complaints without asking their caste or religion. On being charged of saffronising education, SmritiIrani rejected the charges saying she would quit politics if it proves out that she made an attempt to do so.

Irani alleges that Telangna CM K Chandreshekhar Rao did not act on Rohith Vemula’s death and that no attempts were made to take Vemula to doctor and his body was used as a political tool.

Irani further added that most of the Vice Chancellors were appointed by Congress.
