It is the Legend’s Birthday today! The one who started the cult following of his rock band in the 1990’s with all the teens jumping to his wild yet meaningful songs. The ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ singer had some ups and downs in his life and here are some of the unknown facts about him!
1. Metallica was very impressed by Kurt Cobain’s band Nirvana

When Nirvana was gaining popularity, Metallica sent them a fax that read: “We really dig Nirvana. Nevermind is the best album of the year. Let’s get together soon, Metallica. PS, Lars hates the band.”
2. At one point, Cobain claimed to spend $100 per day on heroin.

He had become more addicted to heroin in his later years to relieve himself of the chronic stomach pain, the pressures of the media over his love life with Courtney and his fame due to the band’s success. He would often be high on drugs while performing on stage!
3. Kurt Cobain had an entire solo album ready that was unreleased.

In an interview, Hole guitarist said he had heard a lot of Kurt’s solo unreleased work that he described as, “I just hope that one day it will be released for fans. It’s just so heartbreaking. It’s not surprising. It’s a very sweet, just touching song.”
4. Kurt was a swimmer instructor!

Before he was famous, Kurt Cobain worked as a swimming instructor for kids at the YMCA in Aberdeen!
5. He had a troubled childhood.

In June 1976, shortly after his parents divorced, a young Cobain scribbled onto the wall of his bedroom, “I hate Mom, I hate Dad, Dad hates Mom, Mom hates Dad, it simply makes you want to be sad.”

Before forming Nirvana, one of Kurt’s earlier bands was Fecal Matter. Although this was short-lived, it was a full-fledged one with Kurt Cobain on vocals and guitar Dale Crover on drums, bass and backing vocals.
7. Kurt Cobain inspired the rock band Foo Fighters.

Dave Grohl, the lead singer of the band Foo Fighters has said that track My Hero from the 1997 Foo Fighters album The Colour & The Shape was inspired and based on Kurt Cobain.
8. It was fight at first sight with his would-be wife Courtney Love.

They met in a nightclub in Portland, Oregon and within 30 seconds began tussling on the ground over some bittersweet taunts. But, that was also the moment that these two got attracted to one another and ended up walking down the aisle!
9. Rivalry with Eddie Vedder.

The rivalry between Kurt Cobain and Pearl Jam’s lead Eddie Vedder was pretty intense. Courtney Love herself admits to it stating,”I remember when Pearl Jam beat Nirvana onto the cover of Time, and that pissed Kurt off, let me tell you.”
10. He had a childhood imaginary friend, Boddah.

Before committing suicide, Kurt Cobain had written a long letter referencing an imaginary friend of his, named Boddah! Kurt often described Boddah as the evil part of his personality. When Kurt was just a child, he was blamed for the torture of a cat. Upon asked for clarification, he replied that Boddah had done it.
