Kapil Mohan, The Founder Of Everyone’s Favourite Old Monk Passes Away At 88

The iconic dark red rum is one of the most successful Indian breweries brand in the world! The new year has, alas, brought in a tragic news, as the founder of Old Monk – Kapil Mohan has passed away at the age of 88.




Brigadier Kapil Mohan , the former Chairman and MD of Mohan Meakin passed away on January 6th, 2018. He was unwell for a few years and died of a cardiac arrest in Mohan Nagar area of Ghaziabad. Kapil Mohan was honoured with Padma Shri award in 2010.

Launched on 19th December, 1954, Old Monk gained popularity simply by word of mouth, without any advertisements or marketing publicity. The affordable pricing and high standard delivery product made the dark rum highly successful from teens to old veterans alike! For several years, Old Monk dominated the rum market, thanks to the sheer hard work and determination brought in by its founder. Under his leadership, the Mohan Meakin Ltd installed three distilleries, two breweries and new franchises all over India.
