The year 2017 is about to end. A lot of unprecedented things have happened this year and certainly, a lot is waiting to unveil next year. But, in the middle of these two is the New Year’s Eve – 31st December! While some have already made their plans for an outing with their closedoness, there are those who have not yet figured out what they want to do, and will be at home! Fear no more, we have compiled a list of movies and sitcoms that you can binge watch or even invite your friends over for a night to remember!
1) New Years Eve (Movie)- A drama-comedy around new years eve
We will all want to experience some magic and enchantment on New Year’s Eve! Well, not in the literal sense, but an adventure of some sort, filled with craziness with loved ones and meeting new and exciting people along the way. So, what if you cannot have this moment?! You can live it through this movie and make it enjoyable! It revolves around the happening city of New York where the lives of several couples and singles in the eve of New Year’s, all of whom come from different walks of life, have their stories interwoven with each other with all the twists and turns! A good watch for some light-hearted dramedy.
2) Stranger Things (series) – For fiction and series lovers
This show will take you back in time in the 1980’s. The soundtrack, the trippy music, aliens and monsters, the mystery of the missing kids, the other kids running around the town to get to the bottom of it all. This one is a cocktail of all the cult classics of that era. It has two seasons with 8 and 9 episodes in season 1 and 2 respectively with an IMDb rating of 9/10. A masterpiece that is sculpted to keep you on the edge of your seat for the whole of new year’s eve night!
3) An Affair To Remember (Movie) – For classic Rom-com lovers
An Affair To Remember (1957) is regarded as one of the most romantic movies of all time. It stars Cary Grant and Leo McCarey in the lead roles. The two meet on a cruise traveling from Europe and New York and fall in love! Sounds cliched right? But, wait till you read the next part… the lead pair is already engaged with someone else. They then decide to meet after six months at the Empire State Building, but will they? Watch it and find out!
4) Scrubs (series) – For Sitcom lovers
For someone who has already watched How I Met Your Mother, Friends, and The Big Bang theory. This is the series to watch out for. Scrubs deals with the antics of JD and his friend Turk, as they get into a Hospital as intern doctors. Through the seasons they not only grow from interns to full time doctors, but also learn the unfair circumstances of life, the importance of having friends to get you by the day, the roller-coaster ride of falling in love, the test of commitments that follow after, the need of mentors to make you understand the tricks and trades of life. This is a complete package, and will make you laugh and cry at the same time!
5) Superhero Binge Watch (Movies) – For super-hero lovers
2017 was one of the best years for super-hero fanboys. Spiderman: Homecoming, Thor 3, Wonder Woman, Guardians of Galaxy 2, Justice League. So, in case you missed it or were waiting for the blu-ray to come out, then now is definitely a good time to binge watch these movies and be in awe of the all the action sequences!
(6) The Before Trilogy (Movie) – For Philosophical Lovers
The Before Trilogy comprises of three movies – Before Sunrise (1995), Before Sunset (2004) and Before Midnight (2013). This is not your conventional romantic movie, it is much more than that. The first one had the tagline ‘Can the greatest romance of your life last only one night?’ The lead pair meet on a train, complete strangers, they walk around Vienna, talk about themselves, life, romance, hardships and everything under the sun. It lasts for one day and they part away, never to meet ever again with no contact number or address of each other. But, does destiny has some other plans? Watch out for it! It is a highly relatable movie that makes a lot of sense and has a lot of insights that can/may help you for a better 2018.
(7) The Evil Dead Trilogy (Movie) – For Horror-Comedy Lovers
One of the most iconic movies of the 1980’s was the Evil Dead trilogy. It is directed by the genius of Sam Raimi and starring the goofy actor Bruce Campbell. The plot revolves around five friends traveling to a cabin in the woods, where they unknowingly release demons! The movie had it all – Breath-taking visuals, the edge of the seat thriller, jumpscares, rolling on the floor laughing comedy and was a blockbuster super-hit right away!
(8) Riverdale (Series) – For Teenage Rom-Com Lovers (With A Twist!)
Archies Comics has been a favorite of generations! And what if it gets adapted to the small screen? Well, we get Riverdale. The base is the same, we have protagonist Archie torn between two girls Betty and Veronica, however, it is a much darker take to it with mystery and thriller elements added to it. A refreshing take on our beloved characters. The first season was aired in 2017 itself, so its new and can make it to your New Year’s Eve binge list!
(9) The Twilight Zone (1959)
If you love Science-Fiction, then you have to thank The Twilight Zone for it. The creator Rod Serling is known as the father of Sci-Fi! Every 20 minutes of this episode revolves around ordinary people in an extraordinary situation. Whether it a guy who finds himself alone in the entire city, or a person who ends up travelling back in time, or a person who meets an alternate version of himself from another dimension, or a person who cannot distinguish between his dreams and reality (kinda like Inception!), or a person who is immortal… each episode has inspired hordes of Hollywood movies and continues to do so. You would be amazed at the level of intellect given to the show, with the creator being the host himself and giving a thought-provoking conclusion to each episode!

Many might have heard about it or even watched it several times, the famous When Harry Met Sally is a movie to reckon now more than ever because it is a light-hearted romantic comedy set in the New Year’s Eve. Watching it now will set groove you in the mood of the new year and it helps the fact that it is also of the most iconic movies of all times that one cannot get over with!
