Jalandhar based 19 year old Gurmehar Kaur whose father Captain Mandeep Singh was killed during the Kargil war in 1999 has conveyed a powerful message appealing both the nations to keep peace.
In her 4 minute video, Gurmehar Kaur makes an appeal without uttering a word with the help of 30 placards written in English with the help of a Mumbai based social commentator Ram Subramanian. The video which got uploaded on Facebook on Apr 23 has received more than 7.66 lakh views and over 21000 shares so far.
Gurmehar Kaur in her video through placards says “When I was six, I tried to stab a lady in burkha because for some strange reason I thought she was responsible for my father’s death. My mother held me back and made me understand that Pakistan did not kill my dad, war killed him. It took me awhile to know but today I have learnt to let go of my hate. It was not easy but it’s not difficult. If I can do it so can you”
Her message reads “I wish to live in a world where there are no Gurmehar Kaurs who miss their dad. I am not alone there are many like me”.
“We cannot dream of becoming a first world country with third world leadership,” the teenager comments.
There’s “enough state-sponsored terrorism, enough state sponsored spies, enough state sponsored hatred. Enough is enough”.
