Commuting in the Indian Railways usually means long journeys and for that, we have the IRCTC to cater to our supper needs. However, more often than not, the bill payment becomes a hassle especially when there is no bill. Travelers fear being over-charged on the food. Now, the Railways has cleared that do not pay for the food if there is no bill.
The new policy which states that the passengers do not have to pay for the food they have consumed if they do not get the food bill. The IRCTC, has declared this vital information on their website and the policy shall be implemented by 31st March, 2018.
To ensure the passengers get the bill for their food and drinks, Railways has deployed instructors for the same. This policy comes after more than 7000 complaints were registered by the passengers last year, between April and October.
The food bill becomes a subject of controversy since it is not included in the ticket fare. Users choose whether they want to eat on the train and order food or not in real-time during traveling. What happens then is that the proper bill is not given and an amount is asked to pay. There is no clarity on the exact break-up of food items ordered. Railways has said they have taken the feedback on a serious note and shall work on improving the travel experience.
