Cockroaches are surely one of the scariest insects but after reading this, you might just want to include them in your diet. Scientists have found that the milk secreted by the female cockroaches of the species Diploptera punctate, or the Pacific beetle cockroach, to provide nutrition to her young ones is four times more nutritious than the cow’s or buffalo’s milk. This cockroach’s milk contains all essential amino acids, hence are highly nutritious. Also cockroach milk provides more than three times of energy provided by a buffalo milk of equal quantity.
Though it sounds gross to kill the insects and extract milk out of them but fortunately, is being taken car of. An international team of scientists headed by researchers from the Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine in India decided to sequence the genes responsible for producing the milk protein crystals to see if they could somehow replicate them in the lab. And they did it!
This high calorie milk which is a complete food in itself might not be beneficial to those who are willing to lose weight or who are already having a nutritious diet but can definitely be beneficial to those who are struggling to get even a one-time meal.
