People would be witnessing the largest gathering of auto manufacturers, the Auto Expo 2018 starting from 9th of February till 14th February at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida. Complying with everyone’s interest, there will be at least 20+ new model launches, several new concepts to be introduced and a lot of hybrid/vehicle showcase. Interestingly, the major theme that is being focused upon this year is electrification with almost all major manufacturers aiming to show at least one electronic product.
This is the 14th edition of the automotive showcase and there will be a lot to look forward.
1. Maruti Suzuki Swift
Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the new generation swift and it is definitely one of the most anticipated launches of this year. The sports tailgate will now be marketed as a premium hatchback, considering the added features, updated cabin, and new body design. The new Swift is continued to be powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines. However, there’s a new 5-speed AGS auto gearbox for both the petrol and diesel engines. The pricing of the new Swift is estimated to be just below Rs. 5 Lakhs.
2. Mercedes Benz- EQ Concept
One of the many flashy automobiles at the Mercedes station, there will be one with EQ concept. The all-electric concept vehicle is a crossover straight out of a sci-fi movie and offers flashy blue lights, reflective panels, and futuristic infotainment systems. It is powered by a 70 kWh battery system with electric motors that are capable of delivering over 400 PS of power, 700 Nm of torque and over 600 km of driving range.
3. Hyundai Elite i20
Hyundai’s best in the business, the i20 will also be receiving an upgrade and will be launched at this year’s auto expo. It will come out with cosmetic changes and feature upgrades, while the engine will remain the same. The changes on the outside include a new cascading grille in a honeycomb pattern, updated headlamps with projector headlamps and LED DRLs for the top-end trim. The transmission includes a 5-Speed manual, 6-Speed manual, and a 4-Speed automatic torque converter.
4. Tata X451
Taking the IMPACT Design 2.0 ahead for Tata Motors’ is the X451 premium hatchback, which will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20 facelift, and Honda Jazz. This too will be based on the all-new Advanced Modular Platform (AMP). Engine options are likely to be the tried and tested 1.2-litre turbo petrol mill and 1.5-litre diesel motor sourced from the Nexon. While not much is known at the moment, trusting Tata, the new premium hatchback will be highly appealing in terms of design.
5. Hyundai Santro
The next big icon to be showcased at the Auto Expo is the all-new Hyundai Santro. Making a comeback of sorts, the Santro started its Indian journey way back in 1998 and was a runaway success for the company. After running on Indian roads for almost 16 years, it was discontinued in 2014, with the company stating that the entry-level car had run its course.
6. Renault Zoe EV
It is currently on sale in Europe, and the company plans to introduce it to the Indian market in the coming years. The electric hatchback is powered by a 41kWh battery that offers a range of 400 km and can be charged in 65-80 minutes at a quick charging station. The company aims to showcase its prowess in the EV space with the model and gauge feedback on electric vehicles from the visitors.
